If you don’t see the Work Offline button and your email account is a Microsoft Exchange Server account, Cached Exchange Mode might be turned off. Microsoft Outlook is a handy tool to send and receive emails, but it can be maddening if Outlook is always starting offline. From Outlook , you can work. Working offline usually is a choice. Returning to an online work mode is a simple process. In Outlook, on the Send/Receive tab, choose Work Offline to reconnect.

I’ve researched this and there are several posts that are similar but not the same. I tried those resolutions anyway. I was running Outlook with everything functioning perfectly until I tried to create a rule for incoming messages. I got an error saying I was working offline and needed to go online and connect to an exchange server.

I thought – that’s odd; I can receive emails so I must be online – I’m connected to wifi I do not have a hardwire network option and I’ve tried mobile hotspot with my phone. The usual toggle button for working offline is not turned on. Nothing works, yet all the while I can receive emails and access any website. I can’t find or think of anything else to try. Any other thoughts or ideas? This just started happening earlier today. It just occurred to me that I ran into a problem trying to send an email a while ago – I had to go into the web version of my email to send it so that is affected.

In the repair steps a test email was generated and I received that in Outlook. You may set it depending on your preferred name. You also have the option to set your default profile so it will automatically be loaded or you may select to have a prompt or selection for you to choose for a profile to be used.
